Gastrointestinal conditions are a common reason why dogs and cats present at small animal practices, but also occur regularly in other domestic and farm animals. In light of the increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics, a more responsible and circumspect approach is more important than ever.
In its guidelines on antibiotic use, the German Veterinary Association recommends: “Before treating any organ system, a specific check must be carried out to determine whether other treatment methods are suitable in place of or to minimise the use of antibiotics.”
This is precisely where the advantage of humic acids lies. They boast a broad spectrum of activity. They have an anti-bacterial effect without causing resistance and do not leave behind any residue in the animal. Humic acids create order and support a healthy equilibrium of the gut microbiome.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
At what dosage should I administer DYSTICUM®?
Depending on the species, a distinction should be made between acute and chronic cases. Treatment should be the responsibility of a veterinary or animal health practitioner who will adjust the dosage according to the clinical picture based on their knowledge and experience with the product. For further information, please refer to the instructions for use.
How long do I use it for?
A 3-day treatment is usually sufficient until the symptoms subside. In severe cases or to prevent recurrence of the disease, a 5-day treatment is recommended or a longer treatment depending on the course of the disease. Please consult your veterinary practice if there is no improvement.
Is long-term administration of DYSTICUM® advisable?
Prolonged use may be recommended according to the course of the disease. Our veterinary advisory service will be happy to help you.
Does DYSTICUM® bind nutrients from the feed?
DYSTICUM® has an anti-inflammatory and mucous membrane regenerating effect. The humic acids it contains can even increase the absorption of nutrients, including calcium. There is no unselective binding.
Can I give important medication, e.g. antibiotics, at the same time?
We recommend a gap of 2 hours.
Do the humic acids they contain acidify the stomach or the body?
Practical experience shows that the pH value is not negatively affected by humic acids during treatment.
Is DYSTICUM® coal?
It is the humic acids it contains that give DYSTICUM® its dark colour. Humic acids are extracted from very specific lignites. They are formed during the decomposition (humification) of organic material. Chemically speaking, they belong to the Leonardites, which are soft mineraloids that are extracted from the ground.
Does DYSTICUM® contain aluminium?
DYSTICUM® contains a magnesium-aluminium-silicon complex, the efficacy and safety of which have been proven in studies for numerous medications in the field of human medicine.
How will my animal like the black powder? Will my animal accept it?
Most patients have no problems taking it with food. It is advisable to divide the daily dose into 2 feeding sessions. It is also important to ensure that each dose is completely absorbed. To do this, the powder must be freshly mixed into a portion of the feed before each use and administered before the actual feeding.
Can I also give DYSTICUM® in cases of suspected rat poisoning?
If poisoning is suspected, we recommend that you visit a veterinary clinic or the veterinary practice on duty immediately. In suspected cases, DYSTICUM can be administered directly to bind the rat poison. Humic acids are characterised by adsorptive properties and have been widely studied in this field. They bind rat poison and can prevent the poison from entering the body.
Does my animal need a probiotic at the same time?
The active ingredients contained in DYSTICUM® work on several levels in the intestine, creating a unique therapeutic synergy. In practice, it is advisable to wait and see.
